CommArtists

About this project

Near the end of my undergraduate program, my thesis class dove into the Post-Modernism era of art. We chose certain topics within the era to explore on both a small and large scale. Reflecting on appropriation, I created a series of large prints that took names of musical artists, and created a brand, product, or service, in a collage-like image manipulation that was built of the artists’ DNA. The final output was a clean display of a messy trail through delicate research, image collection, and digital imaging.

I crafted many initial parameters at the start of the project – both goals and restrictions. I drafted a list of a few dozen names of possible artists or musical groups that I could reimagine as a consumer good. In one example, you see a prescription for Maladroit, found in a high school locker. Can you guess the band?
